👩🦰 Our first international trip together! While I’m not known for my partying ways, when one of Aaron’s mates said that he was going on It’s The Ship - a 3 night EDM music festival on a cruise ship that departs from Singapore - we were keen to check it out. I’d never been on a cruise ship before and this one looked luxxxxe! And speaking of luxe, I insisted that we stay at Marina Bay Sands prior to leaving for the cruise.
On the flight over, we were so giggly and excited that the man sitting next to us commented that were the happiest couple he’d ever seen. So sweet! And I’m pretty sure that this energy made us look like newlyweds while we were waiting to check-in to our room at MBS, as a concierge came over and pulled us out of the queue and offered to upgrade us to a suite. SCORE! The suite had beautiful views overlooking the Gardens by the Bay, a deep-soaking tub and a king bed *drool*
The reason I wanted to stay at MBS was mainly for the amazing infinity pool, which we made sure to make use of. At 150m long, 57 storeys up in the air, the views across Singapore are truly glorious, and our terrible digital camera just does not do it justice. Aaron made sure to show off his ‘belligerent traveller’ face - a thing he’d started years ago with a friend while in India.
After an afternoon spent in the pool, we went out to 1-Altitude Bar in the evening, the highest rooftop bar at the world at 282 metres above sea level. The 360 views of Singapore are truly magical and definitely worth a visit if you’re in Singapore.
The next day - after a long soak in the tub - we set off for the cruise on the Royal Caribbean International Mariner Of The Seas. The line-up included headliners Kaskade and Carnage, as well as Far East Movement, Headhunterz, Peking Duk, Will Sparks, Tigerlily, and a whole heap more.
I’ll be honest, the music was not the main event for me. We met so many amazing, fun people (including a guy on the first day who was dressed in a head to toe morph suit, despite the heat, and did not say a word the entire day). We spent more time running around the boat exploring and hanging out with new friends in our suite rather than actually watching any of the artists. Having a suite where I could sunbake on the balcony was just pure magic.
I loved getting all dolled up for the farewell dinner as well. On the last night they held the dinner in the most amazing room (check out that chandelier!) and it was a pretty fancy occasion. Afterwards we decided to take a no-pants dip in the spa and for me, it was the best night of the trip because I didn’t have to pretend that I was keen to party haha!
The highlight of the cruise for me was probably rocking our lifejackets during the safety drill at the start of the cruise and screaming “THIS IS NOT A DRILL” while running around frantically, much to the amusement of the rest of the passengers. I don’t think I’ve laughed that hard ever!
We also had fun feeding the sharks off our balcony and having a very near collision with a huge cargo ship. Seriously. Our ship had to turn so sharply that all of our orange juice and Bacardi champagne glasses and empty coke mixer cans flew off the table and we had to get our butler to bring us more! First world problems much?
Anyway, there’s a photo of that below when it started pulling away after the shock had worn off and we all ran outside to see what had happened. Definitely a memorable moment of a memorable trip!
