Chittering, Oct 2020
I’d never even heard of Chittering until I received an email through work advertising A Taste of Chittering. Just 45 minutes north east of Perth, Chittering is a small country town that hosts the yearly festival to showcase the produce, wine and country lifestyle of the greater Chittering region.
The event was advertised as having local vendor stalls, live music from local talent, cooking demonstrations, beer brewing contests, a petting zoo and more! It sounded like a great day out, so 6 of us road tripped down for the day to check it out.
Held at Nesci Estate Wine Farm, the location was really pretty, and it was a lovely drive up. The marketplace area with the local stalls was a lot smaller than we’d expected, but I guess it is a small country town! The alcohol sampling areas were all chocablock full of people and everyone was sat up around near the stage area, which was squished into a pretty small spot, so we chucked down our big 3m x 3m picnic blanket to ‘reserve’ a spot on the grass then took it in turns to wander around and check the whole place out.
Aaron and I had a locally sourced picnic hamper included in our ticket, and although it looked small, it was filling, with chicken, bread and cheese included. The lunch options for the others in the group were quite limited as there were only a couple of food trucks and the queues were pretty long, but the food that they did have was good. The local music was actually really good too, with a very talented young musician Mitchell Martin being my fave of the acts.
There really wasn’t all that much to do once you’d checked out the stalls, so we only hung around for a couple of hours maybe despite the drive to get there. Personally, I wouldn’t go again unless they added more to do, or if I was going to make a whole day of it and do some other stuff in the area, but it’s always nice to support local stuff and try something different!
