Aquarium of WA, Jan 2021

For Aaron’s Christmas present, I decided to book the unique dining experience that the Aquarium of WA (AQWA) hosts occasionally, called Dine Beneath the Sea. We both love a fancy dinner date, and this one looked like such a special way to do it, I was really excited! Just a month earlier in November, we’d come here for the AQWA snorkel with sharks experience, but this time we were coming back on the other side of the tank. Here’s a quick video of the really fun snorkel experience:

After hours, the conveyor belt on the AQWA tunnel is turned off and lit by candles for a romantic meal, with a limited number of two person tables lining the length of the tunnel. A five course meal is served while manta rays, sharks and all other types of beautiful marine life that are housed in the tank swim by. During the three hour event, guests also have the chance to walk around the aquarium in a peaceful, child-free environment - worth the admission price in itself!

The menu changes for each event, however it included 2 finger food starters, an entree, a main and a dessert plus a drinks package. Without going into all the details of the food (not that important since the menu changes every time) all of the food was great except the dessert which missed the mark for me because it had so many different flavours going on. Despite that, it looked super cute with the little fish-shaped, so the novelty value was there!

Food aside, the main attraction really is the novelty of sitting beneath the tank and watching all of the creatures swim past in the dimly lit tunnel. It really is something special and well worth a visit if you can afford the fairly hefty price tag (around $190AUD per person). Keep in mind that the price includes your meal, alcoholic drinks and exclusive access to the aquarium after hours.

One other thing I would say is don’t be afraid to dress up! I was actually a little surprised to see people rocking up in jeans and t-shirts to what is a pretty special occasion. Anyway, all that aside, I highly recommend AQWA Dine Beneath the Sea for a special event, or just to spoil your someone special. Go on, they deserve it!
